Maxine Frerk Maxine is currently Deputy Programme Director responsible for Rollout and Consumer Engagement within the DECC smart metering implementation team. She is responsible for the regulatory obligations that will be put on suppliers to deliver the rollout and for all elements of the consumer experience. She joined DECC from Ofgem where she was a Partner in the Sustainable Development Division. Her responsibilities at Ofgem included delivery of the smart metering Prospectus and overall responsibility for Ofgem’s work on consumers including in particular vulnerable consumers. She also led Ofgem’s enforcement work. Prior to joining Ofgem Maxine worked at BT in a range of regulatory and policy roles.

Tony Ward Tony is a Chartered Accountant with over 26 years experience in the professional services environment.
His focus is primarily on thermal power generation and its critical role in delivering affordable, reliable and environmentally sound power as an economic enabler in both developed and developing nations. His experience draws on 17 years dedicated to the sector, and covers assignments ranging from policy advisory work for the UK government on the recent energy review, with specific focus on nuclear generation, to responsibility for the audit of the UK’s electricity trading arrangements. Tony’s primary focus is in advising on transactions in the UK energy sector. Completed deals in recent years include: - Centrica’s acquisition of a minority stake in EDF’s nuclear business; - CKI’s acquisition of a stake in the Seabank CCGT; - PPL’s acquisition of Eon’s Central Networks; - The sale of Teesside Power CCGT; and - Mitsui & Co’s acquisition of a minority interest in International Power plc’s generation assets In addition, Tony is engaged in more strategic assignments, such as the financial and commercial review of a major nuclear technology development project for its majority shareholder, and the development of stakeholder influencing papers on issues such as specific aspects of the UK energy market and Bio-fuel production regulations. Tony spent two years seconded to Nuclear Electric plc, the then owner of the English and Welsh nuclear power stations, working initially with the nuclear fuel cycle team, but then in the establishment of the UK’s first Nuclear Liabilities Management team, as well as in the creation of Magnox Electric plc. Tony is also joint author of a number of Ernst & Young’s sector publications, such as the recent “Securing the UK’s Energy Future” papers. |

Mark Coyle Mark is co-founder of the conference which he formed following a wide range of discussions as part of his role as the Corporate Development Director of Utiligroup where he works with clients, industry stakeholders and partners on the transformation of energy and the growth of company value to the sector. He is responsible for the group strategy, market engagement, thought leadership and shaping of propositions in their smart energy information services, software products and trusted guidance across energy supply, trading, metering, distribution and markets.
After a short career in treasury and defence Mark joined National Grid in 1991 where he worked on energy market liberalisation, new entrant models and trading market development. With the acquisition of National Grid's commercial services business in 2001 he worked at Logica on international energy market development, energy company capability evolution and energy market strategy. In 2007 he joined Utilisoft, the independent energy market solutions provider as Corporate Development Director and with their acquisition by Bglobal PLC he now works across the group. Mark has worked extensively as part of established UK and international energy companies on their strategic development. He has also on the formation of new markets and entrant businesses throughout Europe, USA, Russia and Australia. Mark founded the group's 'Towards the Evolved Energy Market' series of papers and contributes to a number of working groups on smart energy. He is a regular speaker at a range of events around the evolution of energy and the implications for sector roles including as returning guest speaker at the Australian Smart Metering / Grid Conference. In 2008 Mark founded the Energy & Utilities Network at LinkedIn, a group he now runs with over 40 000 global members. Mark lives in Nottingham where he is married with two children. |

| Chris Welby Commercial Director, Good Energy Chris Welby is the Commercial Director of Good Energy, the UK’s leading 100% renewable electricity supplier. Chris is member of the Government’s Smart Grid forum and his diverse brief covers all things smart, EMR, Green Deal and renewable energy policy. |

Tony House I am responsible for the delivery of Smart meter deployment, for the programme governance and financial controls and for engagement with Smart Grid delivery from within our Networks business. What I bring to the Supply Transformation Programme… I have over 30 years of experience within SSE, coming from an engineering background, in my years at SSE I have gained broad experience in project management and more latterly in the leadership of project management organisations. I have also spent time managing the operational aspects of our Networks business which included providing leadership for day-to-day activities such as safety and operational excellence. What the Programme means for me… The Supply Transformation Programme represents a once in a lifetime opportunity to design and implement leading edge technology. There is the opportunity to ensure this is done in the most efficient and effective manner to continue and further enable SSE’s excellence in customer service. In the longer term this will ensure that the leading edge technology is maximised to the benefit of our Supply business. What I hope to achieve for the Programme in my role… I want to ensure that the programme delivers the right solutions for the benefit of SSE’s multiple businesses and delivers in line with programme and budget expectations. |

Hayley Dunlop Hayley joined GE in 2011 from Elexon Ltd. and brought with her 10 years of extensive data management and energy industry smart services experience. At Elexon, she held a leadership position as Business Development Director, during which she was focused on maximizing smart metering opportunities and transforming the delivery business. Hayley started her career as an IT consultant for Synergy International. She then moved on to take an IT Applications manager role in Meridian Energy, before moving from New Zealand to the United Kingdom to join Citigroup and becoming their IT Services manager covering EMEA, leading the datacenter and data management strategy. Hayley holds a Bachelor of Computing and Mathematical Sciences from University of Waikato and a Business Administration Degree from Massey University, both in New Zealand. |

Richard Tarboton Richard is head of energy and carbon management for BT Group plc. His team has overall responsibility for BT’s energy and carbon strategy and for energy trading operations across all of BT’s businesses. BT purchases 0.7 per cent of the total energy supply in the UK and is the country’s largest buyer of green electricity. Forty one per cent of the electricity the company uses in the UK now comes from renewable sources. Richard’s team is now working both to reduce the amount of energy BT consumes in the UK and the carbon emissions it generates. Overall, BT intends to have reduced the emissions from its UK business by 80 per cent by 2016, compared to its 1997 baseline. Among the projects under way is one that will see BT construct wind farms capable of meeting 25 per cent of its UK energy needs by 2016. As the director of this project, Richard is responsible for the largest UK investment in wind power to have been announced so far by a company outside the energy sector. Richard’s expertise and experience have also been used to great effect elsewhere. In 2006, he was seconded to the UK government to lead the development of a climate change strategy for local authorities. And earlier in his career, he was head of the transport energy business unit of the Energy Saving Trust. Richard holds an MBA from Cranfield Business School and an engineering degree from the University of Witwatersrand, South Africa. |

Rich Hampshire Rich is a member of the SmartGrids GB executive committee. He leads Logica UK’s smart metering and smart grids practice. He focuses on the effective operation of a smart-enabled competitive energy market in Britain and on helping utilities to understand the opportunities created by the transition to a low carbon economy. Rich is a regular speaker at conferences and industry forums and is author of many papers. Prior to joining the Logica team, Rich gained twenty years experience in the energy and utilities sector, working in management positions with a number of British and international utilities, including E.ON, TXU Europe, Electricité de France, and Eastern Group. |

Bert den Ouden Bert den Ouden is Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of APX-ENDEX, the Anglo-Dutch-Belgian energy exchange for the spot and futures trading of electricity and natural gas markets. He is one of the founders of the company which started in 1999 as the Dutch electricity spot market under the name Amsterdam Power Exchange. Since then, APX grew by acquiring British gas and power exchanges (APX UK, EnMO, UKPX) around 2004, and launching gas exchanges in the Netherlands and Belgium. Subsequently in 2008, the gas and power futures exchange ENDEX was integrated into the group, and early 2010 the merger with Belpex, the Belgian power exchange, was announced. Bert den Ouden has been a pioneer in the integration of Europe electricity markets and played a key role in the development of the Market Coupling mechanism. Between 2002 and 2004 he developed the idea when he was a chairman of EuroPEX, the European Association of Power Exchanges. Subsequently, together with Belgian and French parties, he co-developed a sound partnership between exchanges and grid companies (Transmission System Operator’s) resulting in the launch of Belpex and the Trilateral Market Coupling between Netherlands, Belgium and France in 2006. This has been followed by many follow-up market integration initiatives (Pentalateral coupling, Nordic-CWE, BritNed) wherein Bert den Ouden maintains a close involvement. His other main other focus today is the integration of the gas markets. Apart from his role as a CEO of APX-ENDEX Bert den Ouden is a Board member Belpex, the Belgian Power exchange, and a Board member of APEx, the world association of power exchanges. |

Mike Abrey-Bugg Mike has developed the largest UK energy retail affinity business over the past 10 years. He has built a business process model between E.ON (formally Powergen) and Age UK (formally Age Concern) that attracts new customers and allows investment to develop a sustainable, profitable business. The energy affinity has over 250k customers who have demonstrated extremely high loyalty levels. Mike began his career with Eastern Electricity on the distribution network. He has experience and knowledge of remote switching, monitoring of networks and demand side management. When he moved over to the energy retail business, Mike developed market entry strategies for Eastern Electricity, acquiring new commercial customers in the competitive business market. In 1998 Mike joined British Gas to help develop their entry into the SME business market. Mike has a Masters degree in business administration, holds a diploma in marketing and an HNC in electronics. |

Paul Brodrick Paul is the Business Development Director for Utilities at Cable&Wireless Worldwide. He has been in the utilities industry for 14 years working for the Electricity Pool and ELEXON where he was the Service Delivery Manager for UK Settlement systems and latterly the Smart Metering Lead. Originally part of the team that brought the NETA arrangements to the market and with extensive experience of industry processes, services and regulation, Paul is helping to drive forward C&W's strategy in Smart Utilities and is a recognised SME on the UK Smart Metering, Smart Grid and associated services. |

Evolved Energy as part of a Smart Life Andrew is Lead Technologist for Smart Energy and Future Power Networks within the UK’s Innovation Agency - the Technology Strategy Board. A fluent, multidisciplinary technologist with strong commercial experience, Andrew maintains and nurtures a wide international network of energy related businesses, research organisations and government connections. His background within B2B networks, distributed computing and energy network infrastructures facilitates his management of a diverse portfolio of ongoing support programmes for pre-commercial innovations developed by UK companies within the emerging Smart Energy sector. He is a member of the UK’s Smart Energy Special Interest Group alongside UK regulators OFGEM/OFCOM, the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC), BEAMA, ERA, ENA and members of Smartgrid GB. He works with network operators, power companies, research organisations, SME's, large companies and government agencies to promote and develop a Smart Grid vision for the UK. Andrew also leads on Digital Oilfields and innovation support for the UK Oil and Gas Sector. He's a fair weather cyclist and has been known to play the piano for money. |
